Disaster response
Activated its Emergency Operations Center for the January 2025 LA fires and was the only NGO granted secure access inside the Palisades burn area. Greyshirts ran water and ice distribution sites during outages, cleared downed trees and vegetative debris, and launched a month-long Altadena tree-removal recovery operation beginning late May 2025.
Disaster response
On the ground in LA County since January 9, 2025; secured and outfitted a central relief warehouse within 72 hours, ran BStrong cash-card distributions to evacuees across Altadena, Pasadena and the Palisades, and opened a third California warehouse in San Pedro in April 2025 with Team Rubicon as a multi-agency recovery hub. Co-created the Pali Hub disaster recovery and resilience center with the Palisades Long Term Recovery Group.
ALDisaster response
Post 283's hall survived the fire with power and water intact and became the Palisades command center, hosting FEMA, the EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers under one roof and serving as VOAD headquarters coordinating roughly 40 agencies including the Red Cross, Salvation Army and Team Rubicon. About 1,600 families passed through at the height of operations, and VOAD designated the post as the official Long Term Recovery Group site.
