PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — California's Government Claims Act requires a written claim against a public entity within six months of the loss, which set July 7, 2025 as the cutoff for administrative claims against LADWP and the City of Los Angeles over the Palisades fire.
Missing it can forfeit recovery for emotional distress, business losses and other damages from governmental defendants. By contrast, the state of emergency extended the deadline to sue over insurance losses to January 7, 2027.
