PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — Commissioner Lara issued Bulletin 2025-7 directing insurers to fully and fairly investigate smoke damage claims for properties in or near wildfire areas.
The bulletin states it is not reasonable to deny a smoke claim without an appropriate investigation, nor to require the policyholder to bear substantial costs investigating their own claim. Homeowners whose standing houses were smoke-contaminated should cite this bulletin when an insurer resists.
