PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — FireAid published two independent audit reports, including a KPMG review, concluding that aid reached affected communities and that no funds were misused.

By that point roughly $75 million had gone to more than 160 nonprofits with the balance committed by year-end. The audits did not change the fact that the money was granted to service organizations rather than paid directly to households.
